Summary0009240: Layer tool don't operate normally
DescriptionI have create document with multiple layers containing various objects, for example a layer named 'Texte' with text objects, a layer named 'Illustrations' with image objects, a layer named 'Background' with background image, etc...

I have saved this document as a model. The layers are numbered 0 to 5 (see layers_01.png).

When I create a document based on this model, and when I want to add a layer, the layer 5 is duplicated, the name and the identifiant are the same (see layers_02.png). I rename this duplicated layer to 'test', but the identifiant is always 5 (see layers_03.png).
If I save the document and close. When I open this, the name of Layer 1 is replaced by the name of duplicated layer, and I have a layer with identifiant is 1 without name and no check options (see layers_04.png).

It may be that my model is corrupt? I don't know.

Thanks for help.
Steps To ReproduceI don't reproduce this bug with a new document saved as model.
Additional InformationI'm using the french version.
If you want I can send the model.

hi,

since 1.3.3.14 will "soon" be replaced by 1.4 i'm not sure that this bug will get fixed for the 1.3.3.x branch...

so a question to maybe make the fix happen: why have you marked the priority as urgent?

Yes, I ran into this issue some time ago. I did some testing on my win box (Scribus Version 1.3.8svn; 18 June 2010; Build ID: C-*-T-*-C1.8.6-Windows) using the Page -> Import feature, this is what I found:

The imported objects always end up on the same, or matching, NUMMER layer attribute (say, NUMMER="1") of the currently open document: this is independent of the imported layer NAME.

If the imported NUMMER layer attribute does not exist on the open document .AND. the imported layer name does not either, then, a new layer name (<LAYERS > tag) is created and everything works fine.

If the imported NUMMER layer attribute does not exist on the open document .AND. the imported layer name does exist, then, nothing shows on screen, but selecting the invisible object on the Outline palette makes Scribus crash.

If the imported NUMMER layer attribute exists and is associated with a different layer NAME on the open document, then, imported objects go to the same NUMMER layer attribute (now with other name on the screen) and a new empty layer is created if the imported layer name is nonexistent.

I'm 95% sure, I think...

jdupuy : the best is to upload the problematic template the bug tracker, without it there is probably few chance we will be able to reproduce your issue.

Thaddeus : your issues are different, i gonna open a new bug for them and close it almost immediately as i've got a patch for them :)
