Platform | GNU/Linux | OS | Ubuntu | OS Version | 14.10 |
Fixed in Version | 1.4.6.svn
Summary | 0013435: blend modes not imported from SVG file
Description | Scribus 1.4.4 from Ubuntu 14.10 File https://rawgit.com/tanty/design-hodgepodge/master/svg/filter/igalia.svg loses its feBlend (multiply mode) filter when imported into Scribus Funnily enough, it is possible to obtain a similar look by using Scribus own multiply filter: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tanty/design-hodgepodge/master/scribus/igalia.sla However, this is usable for a full printing story when the main work is done in a SVG edition tool like Inkscape and the printing is done through Scribus.
Steps To Reproduce | Import: https://rawgit.com/tanty/design-hodgepodge/master/svg/filter/igalia.svg It should look like: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tanty/design-hodgepodge/master/svg/filter/igalia.png
Additional Information | I'm aware of: http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Help:Manual_Importsvg#Caveats Hence, this is an issue to follow the request to implement SVG filters import support. In the attached file you can see the actual bogus imported result.

SVG filters are not implemented because they are generally not compatible with PDF output (except those related to blend modes). Exporting filters to PDF generally involves rasterizing the artwork... which defeat the purpose of vector import and which is something Inkscape can already do for you. |
|
Well, my point is, precisely, the blend modes. Should I change the topic of the issue from "filters" to "blend filter", then? Notice, that, for example, CairoSVG is a tool able to export the blend modes from SVG to PDF without rasterizing. I would like to use Scribus to produce CMYK PDFs from SVGs generated with Inkscape and losing the blend modes is stopping me from having a successful and complete print story. |
|
You should be really careful on how you are using blend mode. Given how blend mode works, converting an RGB artwork where blend modes are used to CMYK tend to change quite a bit the colors, now even accounting the colors shit which may be induced by RGB -> CMYK conversion. In this case your best option to preserve color consistency is again to export your artwork to bitmap, then import in Scribus. |

After commits r20475/7 Scribus renders the svg correctly. See attached screenshot |
