Summary0004076: large document takes several minutes to load
Descriptioni have a document of 80,000 words, with about 12 chapters, and some of the
chapters are 16,000 words, and others are shorter. some chapters contain
15 to 20 pages spanning 15 to 20 pageobjects.

here are the issues:

1) applying styles when editing a text object takes FOREVER. literally minutes.
CPU runs at 100%.

2) starting up scribus with this document also takes forever.

it's quite a straightforward issue, and, from a professional
DTP tool perspective, quite unacceptable. as an amateur's
DPT tool perspective, where most amateurs 1) aren't paying a penny
for this tool 2) wouldn't use it to write 80,000 word documents,
it's perfectly acceptable.

your decision.

about 1):

that's in StoryEditor or on Canvas?

We do intend to resolve this issue for 1.4 final (latest :-) )

1) I have exacly the same problem in 1.3.3.4. It's in StoryEditor. I'm writing this note waiting for it to respond after applying styles :).
2) Don't have this problem yet (but my document is not so big).

I hope it'll be resolved sooner than 1.4. :)

Still a problem in 1.3.3.7 :-(
I am using Scribus 1.3.3.7 built from sources on Kubuntu edgy.
Machine: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2800+, 2 GB RAM.
My book has approximately 140--150 pages (A5), distributed over linked
frames, one at each page (except for the first four starter pages).

This won't be fixed in 1.3.3.x. The old text system is simply not capable of handling such large documents without expecting delays.

Without a test document, it is impossible to test this specific issue. 1.5.3 has much better capabilities although 0001036 must remain open as those examples still show issues.
