christoph_s: haven't checked it yet (a screen shot would be nice, though), but Czech texts cannot principally work with fonts which don't include our specific ISO 8859-2 glyph set, e.g. Bitstream fonts you've mentioned are known for not working with our languages. The same applies to Polish, Hu, Slovenian, etc.

To the other, good group belong Minion, Myriad, URW fonts and the other mentioned here:

Uploaded screenshot. The issue is with line breaks, not charakters.

christoph_s: if you compare just the first line of your screen shot with the same text set in e.g. Times New Roman, you will notice _lots_ of missing characters in your screen shot, e.g. in "cevaž", "Vrovechrup", "prádtré" (c, e, r with haceks).

Yes three characters missing in the first line, and the alignment/linebreak is totally messed up. I still think there's something wrong.

See also how 1.3.3x handles it.

I think the only difference is that 133 shows red squares for missing glyphs and 134 just omits them (but counts their width for linebreaking).

Do you see any other issue?

avox: it would be of course much nicer to have the red squares as indication for missing glyphs in 1.3.4 too, but considering the fact that Czech lorem ipsum doesn't make any sense with fonts known for not supporting all Czech glyphs, I personally would see this as a significance=0 case.

I uploaded for comparison a screenshot with Lido from a Czech type house. Looks OK to my non-slavic eyes.

ad Lido: it looks as it should. I'll make some tests with my fonts later today

missing glyphs still invisible in PDF, but do we really need it?

>>> missing glyphs still invisible in PDF, but do we really need it?

No. It's only important to display the missing glyphs in Scribus as a warning.

Fixed. Thanks!
