Sure we are, have you tested with current SVN at all? Have you attached any patches? Things take time - please be patient, meanwhile, please test current SVN regularly, your product build date shows 9 July.

Thanks, will try latest build (17th July 2008) and reply to see how the speed is...

Hi, I have tried the latest build (filename: scribus-1.3.5svn-080717-snapshot.exe). Although it says that the build date is 17th July 2008, inside scribus it says 9th July 2008. I am using Ghostscript 8.62 (latest). The Build ID is: C-*-T-*-C1.6.4-Windows.

PS: I think this is the version I had installed previously. It is still incredibly slow and extremely difficult to work with. Hope the information above was helpful. Thanks.

I have uploaded a new snapshot (scribus-1.3.5svn-080824-snapshot.exe). This one has improved canvas performances.

I found new fonts installed with Scribus. Unfortunately a font has no Hungarian glyphs. This is Bitstream Vera. This font has been corrected and distributed. The new filename: DejaVu. DejaVu has Hungarian accented glyphs and more East European, too.
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

You can try it. It's GPL, too.

Storyeditor doesn't work after edit its headlines. I have to restart Scribus to do so.

Hey timpul, maybe you should post your last post (0020168) as a new issue?

I have tried the new snapshot of scribus and can say that it has incredible speed (when creating a new document).

However, The approx. 80 page document that i am working on at the moment was originally created using the 1.3.3.12 stable release version of scribus. It was then 'upgraded' to 1.3.3.13svn and then 'upgraded' again to 1.3.5svn. This document has noticed some performance improvements, although regrettably, it is nowhere near as quick as a new document.

thanks for the new snapshot,

hth,

Hi,

My document is now over 100 pages and it is getting slower with every page I add. Each page has >= 8 links on it and text boxes, images etc. Which is probably why it is very slow :\.

However I must add that there are some accompanying documents that I am preparing with this >100 page document. Scribus handles these quite well.

I have some documents here with large, high-resolution images (digicam photos, not downsampled). Four photos per page. That makes ~100MB per page (uncompressed). You can imagine how slow Scribus may handle such documents. I split the file into chunks of 32 pages each. The parts can be exported as pdf and concatenated with ghostscript.

On the long run, I'd suggest that Scribus develops a new memory model, with unused pages completely swapped off. But for the moment, this workaround is just fine.

thanks for the tip, should have thought of this before!

Anyway, that does not mean to say that Scribus can't be improved!

thanks,

Athlon XP 2000+ @1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, Archlinux, KDE 4.1.2, Scribus 1.3.5svn, build 12611.

Slowness of scribus caused that I had to drop working on one project. It wasn't very complicated project - two master pages, few styles, one bitmap and few objects with two color gradient. Stopped after making about 15 pages. Processor usage would jump to about 80%.

Hi, this is an absolute subjective point of view : i haven't been using 1.3.5.svn for a few month now but the job i had to do these last days was a real pleasure !
I wouldn't say Scribus is like quick silver, but i found it defenitly much better than before, especially for opening and moving objects.
Btw i take this opportunity to congratulate every one working on this great project, as i can not write it somewhere else. I was ready to open a new "bug report" to congratulate all of you !
THANKS !
