Sometimes I'd prefer to be not able editing objects that are not managed by undo manager - f.e. when I deleted by accident couple pages of already formatted text.
Indeed, why not using external text editor (as it done for graphics) until undo for text will be implemented?
Is it possible to allow user mark up text without editing text itself?

Deactivating undo while doing actions which are not yet managed by the undo manager is basically useless, once undo is enabled again you will face exactly the same problems because of the missing undo actions.

Jhali, what problem ale is trying to resolve? As for me problem is like that: when you edit text in text frame and have paste wrong part of text or misprints or something like that you most likely will hit crtl-z (it's just reflex) -> undo performs for some action that you really didn't want to cancel, maybe very other part of document, so you have to go there and ensure that redo did well.
Ale, did I get your right?

yes, subeditor, you got me right.

it's exactly one specific problem i want to solve with this general rule.

in most cases, jean is right, the deactivation is indeed useless, since the action is very short and the user has not time to undo while performing it.

but the case of the text editing is one of the cases where you may have unexpected behaviors which you don't even see! (like undoing the resizing of a frame on page 10 while editing a text on page 2... and you will have the feeling that scribus just is ignoring your undo command).

on top of it, it would be nice to get my other feature request on that topic implemented: when undoing the selection should move to the item undone (deactivating the undo while doing unundoable things should help on that matter)

Closing, this is as unfeasible as adding all the undo functionality in one go.
